Abstract:
The article discusses research on the effects of music therapy in controlling postoperative pain in the U.S. It notes that more than 80% of patients experience moderate to severe pain postoperatively. While more randomized controlled trials are needed, evidence suggests that music therapy is a simple, cost-effective and benign intervention to reduce the intensity and duration of postoperative pain. Music therapy is shown to increase relaxation through psychological effects and increasing oxytocin release in response to stress, promoting wound healing.
