Discusses music therapy with drug addicts with criminal records in the Tehran Therapeutic Community. Twenty participants completed questionnaires about their favorite music and singer, the duration and nature of their addiction, their jail sentence, and the relationship between their favorite (usually sad) music and resumption of drug abuse. Twelve clients indicated that listening to certain music motivated them to abuse drugs, while eight said it made no difference. Twenty-five music therapy sessions used lyric analysis and song sharing to help the clients communicate their histories and feelings relating to their drug abuse.
